Ecosystem metrics by metric type
The best chains build a mutually beneficial flywheel between the platform & its app ecosystem

1. What are ecosystem metrics?
We feature a separate ecosystem tab for general-purpose chains on the platform. Each ecosystem metric aggregates the relevant data for the applications on the chain.
Currently available ecosystem metrics:

What's the difference between a basic vs. standardized metric?
In contrast to basic metrics, standardized metrics require ongoing research & standardization work, as well as data maintenance.
2. Why do ecosystem metrics matter?
An L1/L2 chain becomes a better business when the apps on top of it succeed:
- Chains need to make revenue.
- Chain revenue is a % of app revenue.
- The more money the apps on the chain make, the more the underlying chain can capture.
As a result, all L1/L2 Labs and Foundations should be incentivized to ensure that the apps in their ecosystem get all the help & recognition they deserve.
3. How can chains & apps leverage ecosystem metrics?
The new ecosystem metrics pages are great tools for:
Apps to track & report their performance on a specific chain:
Morpho is officially the largest lending protocol on @base by active loans. https://t.co/P2ICafROwc

Chains to track & report which apps that contribute the most to the growth of their chain:
~750m of total loans!
it still blows my mind how lending markets exist fully onchain, and that TAM will only grow much bigger when we introduce more mechanisms like identity and reputation https://t.co/GN6BRBgNCb— Tina He (@fkpxls) March 5, 2025
