OpenChat users can send messages to each other containing tokens such as ICP. Users can upgrade to Diamond membership to have access to extra or enhanced features.

OpenChat is a chat application running end-to-end on the Internet Computer blockchain.

CHAT tokenholders own and govern the protocol.

# OpenChat Treasury Methodology

## 1. Overview

OpenChat treasury represents the total value of CHAT tokens held in the OpenChat protocol's treasury wallet, measured in USD. This metric tracks the protocol's financial reserves by calculating a running balance of all treasury inflows and outflows over time, providing insight into the protocol's financial health and token accumulation patterns.

## 2. Data sources

- **OpenChat application events**: Event logs from the OpenChat protocol running on Internet Computer blockchain, containing treasury transfer operations and metadata
- **Treasury transfer events**: Specific event types (`transfer_to_treasury` and `transfer_from_treasury`) that record movements of CHAT tokens into and out of the protocol treasury
- **Token price feeds**: End-of-day CHAT token price data from Coingecko API for USD conversion
- **Event metadata**: Timestamps, user identifiers, and JSON payload data containing transfer amounts and transaction details

## 3. Step-by-step calculation

### Component A: Event deduplication and processing
- **Purpose**: Clean and deduplicate raw OpenChat event data to ensure accurate treasury calculations
- **Logic**: Raw OpenChat events are deduplicated using a combination of `timestamp`, `user`, `name`, `source`, and JSON payload content to remove duplicate records. Events are numbered using row partitioning, and only the first occurrence of each unique event combination is retained.
- **Key fields**: `timestamp` (event time), `name` (event type), `user` (actor), `source` (originating system), `payload` (JSON data containing transfer details)

### Component B: Treasury transfer event filtering
- **Purpose**: Isolate treasury-related events and extract transfer amounts
- **Logic**: Filtered events are separated into two categories: `transfer_to_treasury` events representing inflows of CHAT tokens into the treasury, and `transfer_from_treasury` events representing outflows from the treasury. For each event, the transfer amount is extracted from the JSON payload's `amount` field and converted from raw blockchain units to standard token units by dividing by 1e8.
- **Key fields**: `amount` (transfer quantity in CHAT tokens), `payload_index` (transaction reference), filtered by `name` field matching treasury event types

### Component C: Daily balance aggregation
- **Purpose**: Calculate net daily changes in treasury balance
- **Logic**: Treasury inflow and outflow events are combined, with outflows treated as negative amounts. A daily timeline is created spanning from the first treasury event date to the current date. Events are grouped by day, and the net change in treasury balance is calculated by summing all inflows and outflows within each 24-hour period. Days with no treasury activity show zero change.
- **Key fields**: Daily aggregated `change` amounts, truncated `timestamp` values for daily grouping

### Final aggregation
- **Combining components**: Daily treasury changes are processed using a running sum calculation that maintains a cumulative balance over time, ordered chronologically from the earliest treasury event
- **Currency conversion**: Daily CHAT token balances are converted to USD using end-of-day CHAT/USD exchange rates from Coingecko price feeds
- **Time aggregation**: Treasury balance is calculated at daily granularity with each day showing the cumulative balance at the end of that day
- **Final calculation**: The treasury metric represents the running cumulative sum of all daily treasury changes, converted to USD, providing the total dollar value of CHAT tokens held in the OpenChat protocol treasury at each point in time
