Overview
Contracts deployed measures the number of unique smart contracts published onchain. It is a proxy for the amount of new infrastructure or applications that are launched on the blockchain.
Data sources
- Blockchain transaction traces and execution logs
- Block metadata for timestamps and daily time boundaries
- Contract deployment records and metadata
Common calculation approaches
Execution trace analysis
Contract creation operations are extracted from transaction execution traces to identify successful deployments. This method is used for blockchains such as Ethereum and Avalanche, where every operation resulting in a new contract address is parsed and counted within daily time boundaries.
Deployment record aggregation
Unique contract addresses are aggregated from blockchain records and specific deployment events. This approach is applied to networks such as TON and Immutable to track the number of distinct contracts successfully published to the network, using the creation timestamps provided by the blockchain.
Cross-layer activity aggregation
Contract deployments are aggregated across different sub-networks or layers to represent a unified view of development activity within an ecosystem. For example, new contract counts are combined from the BSC mainnet and opBNB Layer 2 to measure the total number of deployments for BNB Chain.
Note: The calculation approaches and protocol examples above are representative patterns. Individual protocol implementations may vary.
