# MANTRA Transaction count Methodology

## 1. Overview

Transaction count measures the total number of unique transactions processed daily across the Mantra ecosystem. Transaction activity is combined from both the cosmos-based Mantra Chain and the EVM-compatible Mantra EVM to provide a comprehensive view of network usage. Distinct transaction hashes are counted on a daily basis to track user activity and network adoption.

## 2. Data sources

- **Blockchain events**: Raw transaction records from Mantra Chain and Mantra EVM, including transaction hashes, block timestamps, block heights, and fee information

## 3. Step-by-step calculation

### Component A: Mantra Chain transaction aggregation

- **Purpose**: Count daily transactions on the cosmos-based Mantra Chain
- **Logic**: Transactions are extracted from Mantra Chain transaction records. Block timestamps are truncated to day-level boundaries, and distinct transaction hashes are counted within each day. Transaction fees are calculated by summing the base transaction_fee and transaction_tip fields. Normalization is applied based on block height: transactions prior to block 13,000,000 are normalized by 6-decimal precision, while transactions from block 13,000,000 onwards are normalized by 18-decimal precision to reflect the transition from `uom` to `amantra` denominations.
- **Key fields**: `block_timestamp` for daily grouping, `transaction_hash` for unique transaction counting, `block_height` for migration logic, `transaction_fee` and `transaction_tip` for fee calculations

### Component B: Mantra EVM transaction aggregation

- **Purpose**: Count daily transactions on the EVM-compatible Mantra EVM
- **Logic**: Transactions are extracted from Mantra EVM transaction records. Block timestamps are truncated to day-level boundaries, and distinct transaction hashes are counted within each day. Gas-based fees are calculated using `receipt_gas_used` and `receipt_effective_gas_price` fields normalized by decimal precision.
- **Key fields**: `block_timestamp` for daily grouping, `transaction_hash` for unique transaction counting, `receipt_gas_used` and `receipt_effective_gas_price` for fee calculations

### Component C: Final aggregation

- **Purpose**: Combine and standardize transaction data across the Mantra ecosystem
- **Logic**: Daily transaction counts from both Mantra Chain and Mantra EVM are combined using a union operation, with each chain labeled by distinct product names ('Mantra Chain' and 'Mantra EVM'). Currency conversion is not applied as this metric counts transactions rather than monetary values. Transaction timestamps are truncated to daily boundaries using day-level granularity to ensure consistent daily reporting periods. The final metric represents the count of distinct transaction hashes processed on each chain per day, with standardization applied to ensure consistent schema formatting and the filling of missing days with zero values.
