# Active users (weekly) Methodology

## 1. Overview

Active users (weekly) is measured as the total number of unique addresses that initiate revenue-generating transactions on Injective Cosmos. This metric serves as a key indicator of network adoption and user engagement by identifying the individual participants responsible for transaction activity. Each unique address is counted once per 7-day rolling window, regardless of the number of messages or transactions submitted.

## 2. Data sources

- **Blockchain events**: `message` events from Injective, covering Injective Cosmos

## 3. Step-by-step calculation

### Component A: Injective Cosmos transaction sender extraction

- **Purpose**: Identify the individual addresses responsible for initiating activity on Injective Cosmos.
- **Logic**: Transaction metadata is retrieved from `message` events. The address of the transaction initiator is extracted from the `sender` attribute within the event attributes. This captures all participants who trigger on-chain state changes that result in message execution.
- **Key fields**: `event_attributes` (containing the sender address) and `block_timestamp` (timing).

### Component B: Weekly aggregation

- **Purpose**: Calculate the weekly count of unique active addresses.
- **Logic**: Extracted sender addresses are truncated to a weekly granularity using UTC week boundaries. A distinct count is applied to the addresses within each 7-day window to ensure that users are only counted once per period, adhering to the canonical definition of active users (weekly).
- **Key fields**: `user_address` (deduplicated address) and `timestamp` (weekly truncated time).

Validators process transactions and receive transactions fees (supply-side fees).

Injective is a smart contract platform for decentralized finance applications (a blockchain) and an orderbook exchange protocol. Injective was founded by Eric Chen, Albert Chon etc. and launched in 2020. Note that this dashboard only tracks Injective's blockchain business.

INJ holders own and govern the protocol. They currently take a cut of the total transaction fees paid by users (revenue) via Burn Auctions. Injective's investors include Binance, Jump Crypto, Mark Cuban, etc.
