There are two ways to use Token Terminal in ChatGPT: either install the Token Terminal app from the ChatGPT app directory, or add the MCP server directly as a custom connector.

Option 1: Token Terminal app

Token Terminal is available as an app in the ChatGPT app directory — no developer mode or manual connector setup required.
  1. Open the Token Terminal app on ChatGPT.
  2. Click “Connect” and complete the authentication flow in your browser when prompted.
  3. The Token Terminal app should now be available in your ChatGPT conversations — invoke it with @token-terminal or via the ”+” menu.
The ChatGPT app has not yet been updated to Token Terminal MCP 2.0 and still runs the previous version of the server. To use the 2.0 server in ChatGPT today, add it as a custom connector (option 2 below).

Option 2: Custom connector

Adding the MCP server as a custom connector ensures you are always using the latest version of the server, including MCP 2.0. Note that custom connectors require developer mode, which is available on paid ChatGPT plans.
  1. Open ChatGPT and go to Settings, then navigate to “Apps”.
  2. Open “Advanced settings” at the bottom of the page and toggle “Developer mode” on.
  3. Back in the “Apps” settings, click “Create app”.
  4. Fill in the app details:
    • Name: Token Terminal MCP (use a name distinct from the Token Terminal app if you have it installed, to keep the two apart in the app picker)
    • MCP server URL: https://mcp.tokenterminal.com/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth
  5. Create the app and complete the authentication flow in your browser when prompted.
  6. The app should now be available in your ChatGPT conversations — select “Developer mode” from the ”+” menu and choose the app you created.
