# Projects

> Protocols, the apps they run, and financial metrics at four levels.

A project is whoever runs things: the protocol or company behind one or more live apps. An app is one deployed version a project runs, such as `uniswap-v3` or `hyperliquid-perps`.

## Projects, apps and chains

The same measure is published at four levels: app on one chain, app, project on one chain, project. Where a measure adds up, the broader figure is the narrower figures added together, so the levels always agree; [Metrics](/docs/catalog/projects/metrics) carries the four tables.

Where a project runs a blockchain, that blockchain is a chain rather than an app: gas paid on the network lands in the project-and-chain table beside the trading fees the project's apps earned. Hyperliquid works this way, with trading fees from its perps and spot apps and gas from its HyperEVM chain. [Chains](/docs/catalog/chains/index) covers the chain side.
